Nintendo held a 40 minute direct on September 23, 2021 and in the Direct, they talked about new games that would be coming out, updates on existing games, and even a surprise.

The Direct started off with a cinematic shot of a destroyed castle in the night and then Rathalos showed up as well as a new monster who’s name is unknown. This trailer was the reveal for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak which is a massive expansion that will be coming to Monster Hunter Rise in the Summer of 2022. Yoshiaki Koizumi appeared on screen as the guide to the Direct and mentioned how this expansion would have new story elements, new locations, new monsters, new hunting actions and new quests.

The first batch of Nintendo Switch headlines started off with Mario Party Superstars and showed off the other three N64 boards that will be in Mario Party Superstars as well as the gimmick of these boards. The three boards was Woody Woods which appeared in Mario Party 3, Yoshi’s Tropical Island which appeared in Mario Party, and Horror Land which appeared in Mario Party 2. They also showed off a new mode called Mt. Minigames which are minigame only courses which you compete with others to last the longest or team up with others in Tag Match. They wrapped up by saying Mario Party Superstars will have online play for both the boards and minigames and that it would be released on October 29 and pre-orders are available now.

The next game to be shown off was a game called Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. The trailer showed off the three main characters of the game and the gameplay of the game which is all card based from traveling, combat, and everything else. Voice of Cards was given a release date of October 28 and pre-orders were available now as well as a free demo if you want to try this game for yourself.

Disco Elysium – The Final Cut was shown next which is a game that came out in October 2019 and got an expanded version, which is this version, that was released for consoles earlier this year and now on Switch. This game would be released on October 12, three days before it’s two year anniversary of being released, which physical versions coming in Early 2022 and digital pre-orders being available now.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass got a new look as the second wave of DLC hasn’t been shown yet until now. This second wave is called Guardian of Remembrance and it would be available on October 29 and would have new story moments, new stages, new playable characters that they showed in the trailer, and new actions for existing characters.

Chocobo GP was the last game to be shown in this first batch of Switch headlines This game from Square Enix looks to be a Final Fantasy racing game with elements of Diddy Kong Racing where you can stack items and make them powerful as well as being able to choose what vehicle you drive. Chocobo GP can be played locally or online and the game has a in-game 8×8 elimination tournament where 64 players will race to see who is the best and the trailer end with a release window of 2022.

Yoshiaki Koizumi appeared on screen to check on us and mentioned that the last Smash Ultimate DLC character would be revealed by Mr. Sakurai in the final Smash Ultimate Direct that would be held on October 5 at 7am pacific/10am pacific. The direct will not only reveal the new character but show how we will use the character in battle.

Koizumi then presented us with a trailer for a game that starts out cinematic at first. After a few seconds, Kirby appeared on screen and this would be the reveal for Kirby’s new game titled Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The trailer showed gameplay and it would be Kirby’s first proper 3D game where you can roam around the environment instead of being stuck in a straight line in a 2D or 2.5D game. The trailer ended with a release window for Kirby and the Forgotten Land which would be Spring 2022.

Koizumi showed yet another trailer but this time, it was for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The trailer started off inside the museum with the playable character walking up the stairs and looking at a sign that says “The Roost Open 24-7” and then the character going inside the new door and the trailer ends with an announcement for an Animal Crossing Direct that would be airing in October but no date was given about when exactly it would air. Koizumi appeared on screen again to say that New Horizons new free content would be available in November and reminded us about the Animal Crossing Direct in October.

The next batch of Nintendo Switch headlines started with a mini batch of news that started with Mario Golf: Super Rush. Mario Golf: Super Rush was getting a second free update that would bring Koopa Troopa and Ninji as playable characters and add 2 additional courses that are available right now as it was released some time after the Direct.

Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition was the next game to be shown in the mini batch of news. Disney Magical World 2 was originally released on the 3DS in November 2015 in Japan and October 2016 everywhere else and it would be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the holidays.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was the last game shown in the first mini batch of news. KOTOR was originally released on the Xbox back in July 2003 and got released to PC, Mac, and mobile devices over time but it’s now making it’s way to Nintendo Switch on November 11 and pre-orders are available now.

The next batch of news started off with Dying Light 2 Stay Human – Cloud Version which will allow Switch players to play Dying Light 2 but they would need an internet connection. They also showed that Dying Light: Platinum Edition would be coming to the Switch as well which is the first Dying Light game with all the DLC. Dying Light 2 Stay Human Cloud Version would be available on the same day as it comes to other consoles which is February 4, 2022 with a free demo of the game launching the same day and Dying Light: Platinum Edition would be available October 19which pre-orders being available now.

Triangle Strategy, which was originally called Project Triangle Strategy, got a new look in this new trailer that touch upon the feedback given from players via the demo version survey which resulted in the game now having difficulty options, improvements to the UI of the game, camera angle controls, being able to review previous dialogue, and streamlining the game flow and load times. The game got a released date of March 4, 2022 and pre-orders for the game are available now.

The last game to be shown in this second batch of headlines is Metroid Dread. The trailer showed off more gameplay with moves that you’ll be able to do in game and talked about more of the story and locations you’ll be visiting in the game. The trailer also talked about the new Metroid Dread report and where to watch that and the other reports. The game is still scheduled to be released on October 8 with pre-orders being available now.

Koizumi appeared to talk about news on Nintendo Switch Online and how Nintendo would be adding a new membership plan with new content to go along with it. One of these new content is being able to play a collection of N64 games like Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart 64 and being able to play some games online. Another one of these new content is being able to play a collection of Sega Genesis games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Gunstar Heroes. The new plan would be launching in late October and you’ll be able to change to the new plan if you have a existing membership plan but they will give more details about the new membership at a later date. They also showed off N64 and Genesis controllers that you can use while playing these games and it would retail for $49.99 USD each.

The last batch of Nintendo Switch headlines started with talking about some collections coming to the Switch. The first of these collections is called Shadowrun Trilogy which includes Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall – Director’s Cut, and Shadowrun Hong Kong – Extended Edition. All three of these games was released on PC between the years of 2013 and 2015. This collection would be released to the Nintendo Switch next year.

The other collection to be shown off was Castlevania Advance Collection which includes four Castlevania games which are Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, and Castlevania: Dracula X. Other then Dracula X, all the games in this collection was released on the Game Boy Advance with Dracula X, being a remake of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, being released on the SNES. This collection would be made available some time after the Direct so it’s available now.

Next to be shown off was a game called ActRaiser Renaissance which is a remake of the SNES game ActRaiser which came out in Japan on December 1990 and the US on November 1991. The game has two different gameplay styles to it with one being a side-scrolling action game and the other being a world building game where you cultivate the land you liberated. The game would be made available some time after the Direct so it is available now.

Deltarune Chapter 2 got a trailer and was going to be coming to the Switch after being released on PC on September 17, 2021. The trailer showed off what you could expect to see in Chapter 2 and it would arrive some time after the Direct as a free update to Deltarune Chapter 1 so it is available now.

A montage was the last thing to be shown in this last batch of Switch headlines. Hot Wheels Unleashed was the first thing to be shown off and it would be released on September 30. Surviving the Aftermath was the next game to be shown off and it would be released in Holiday 2021. Shin Megami Tensei V would have digital pre-orders available on the same day as the Direct so pre-orders are available now. Wreckfest was shown next and would be released in Fall 2021. Two Arcade Archives was shown off with one being Pac-Man and the other being Xevious and they are available now. The last game to be shown off in the montage was Rune Factory 5 which got a release date of March 22, 2022.

Koizumi appeared on screen again to say there was some more announcements but Shigeru Miyamoto appeared and talked about the Mario movie that was being made by Illumination Studios. He first talked about when the movie would be release which would be December 21, 2022 in North America and Holiday 2022 everywhere else. Miyamoto also wanted to share who was going to be playing some of the characters in the movie. The voice actors are as follow: Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, and Charles Martinet was said to be involved in the movie and have some special cameos in the movie.

After Miyamoto talked about the movie, Koizumi took over to show a trailer for some game which is turned out to be Splatoon 3. In the Splatoon 3 trailer, we saw a bit of the multiplayer mode with new weapons, new subs, new specials, a few maps and so much more. We also got to see a bit of the story mode about some of the places we would be going, the characters we will be seeing, and an interesting ending with the squid turning into a Mammalian and a tagline showing up saying “Return of the Mammalians”. A squid researcher appeared to talk about more of what we saw in the trailer and gave some insights as to what to expect with Splatoon 3 but no release date was shown for Splatoon 3.

Koizumi announced that the next announcement would be the last announcement of the Direct and after a cinematic looking intro, the announcement turns out to be Bayonetta 3 and gameplay was shown off with the standard gameplay that Bayonetta is known for as well as kaiju battles which looks to be new for the series as you use your demonic summons to battle other demons and angels. The game was shown to have a release window of 2022 and teased to have one last surprise that will remain unknown.
